Responsibilities

What does the role involve?

Being a Dialysis nurse requires commitment and passion along with the skills and competencies to juggle the technical nursing aspect whilst giving holistic care.  You will be working autonomously, responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of care for dialysis patients with chronic kidney disease or acute kidney injury.

North Devon (Barnstaple) Dialysis Unit operates 20 haemodialysis stations, serving up to 64 patients, in partnership with the Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust using only the latest equipment.  Nursing is planned at a ratio of 1:4 patients and you will be supported by a HCA.

This is a full time role of 37.5 hours.  Current days are working various shifts Monday to Saturday between 7.00am to 6.30pm.

Job Requirements

To work within the team and work alone as necessary in providing care to individuals.

• To manage clinical shifts and complete associated tasks including safety huddles.

• Have a sound knowledge of the CQC’s KLOE (if required) and ensure these underpin all aspects of caredelivery.

• To provide support for the Clinic Manager, Deputy Clinic Manager and Senior Staff Nurse in the day to dayrunning of the clinic.

• To assess, plan and implement holistic care for patients which takes into account the patient’s previous lifestyleand current.• Evaluate the outcome of the agreed care pathways/care plans and reassess as appropriate and adapt/changecare as required.

• To promote continuing psychological support to patients and their families in order to ensure the well-being ofthe patient.

• To safely maintain the environment where care is delivered.• To report changes in the patient's condition, behaviour to medical staff or other disciplines as appropriate.

• To ensure patients treatments are delivered in line with the BSC Key Performance Indicators and RenalAssociation Guidelines.

• Report any untoward incidents as per policy.• Maintenance of all patient’s records (paper/electronic).

• Maintenance and cleaning of all equipment (including emergency) to ensure these are in a safe and efficientworking order.• Work within the quality management system (QMS) in place within the dialysis clinic.

• Ensure adherence to all Infection, Prevention and Control requirements.

• Work within agreed local/corporate/national statute, policies and procedures and within the NMC/NMBIProfessional Codes of Conduct.

• To maintain patient confidentiality and privacy at all times.• Act as a role model for junior members of staff.• Ensure Corporate Values are demonstrated at all times.

• Promote and Facilitate Shared Care where appropriate.

• Participate in Link Nurse Roles where required.
